Teaching Methods

I have a touch screen laptop with two pens which enable both me and the student to draw on the screen. The use of a PDF editor enables us to work directly onto the resources and enables all the notes can be saved and shared if requested. Online lessons are done using Zoom, which enables the student to interact with the resources we use either by annotating or by me sharing my screen so that my software can be used.

In our lessons we typically go over past exam papers as:

  1. They are the best resources available for preparing for an exam. The style of questions is the same as they will be in the final exam so the student can get used to them.

  2. It is more efficient than going over individual topics. Interleaving (mixing topics) is a method of learning which can boost exam grades and understanding of content. Learning is more spaced out so that each topic is revisited multiple times over a longer period ensuring that they are less likely to be forgotten. The student is more challenged as they must recognise what they need to apply rather than simply doing the same thing as they did in the previous question or just applying the topic the worksheet is about.

  3. The questions are completely free from mistakes. Other resources are often not completely free from mistakes and the questions and presentation are often of a lower quality.

  4. There is less time spent switching between worksheets.

However, if there are any individual topics the student is struggling with or is a difficult homework assignment, I would be happy to help with that instead.
